Emma is an experienced osteopath and specialist paediatric osteopath.
Emma is an experienced osteopath working people of all ages and experiences but particularly with babies, children and women during pregnancy, postpartum, through menopause.
Emma did her undergraduate training at The British School of Osteopathy in London, (now UCO), graduating with Distinction for her integrated Masters and was the winner of the prestigious Silver medal, for graduating top of her year. She later went on to specialise in paediatrics doing a further 2 years of Post Graduate training and received a Diploma in Paediatrics (DPO) from the internationally renowned Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) in London. During her paediatric training she worked with children with many and varied presentations including those with much more complex presentations including rare genetic disorders, neurological injuries and developmental disorders. The training also involved working on a NICU ward at Barnet Hospital, treating premature and low birth weight babies. She has also undertaken an ever growing number of postgraduate courses in cranial osteopathy and is now a member of the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy. She thus uses cranial osteopathy extensively in her treatments. She has also undertaken further training in visceral manipulation through the Barral Institute.
In 2018 Emma trained to be a breastfeeding peer supporter through the NCT. During her time in this role, as well as her time working in the clinic at the OCC, Emma developed a keen interest in infants with feeding disorders and now works very closely with a number of IBCLC’s (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and tongue-tie practitioners to support infant feeding. Emma is also an affiliate member of the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners. Emma attends regular on going training in infant feeding and tongue tie.
Prior to being an Osteopath, Emma trained to be a clinical pilates teacher. She completed her fully comprehensive studio and mat pilates teacher training with the Australian Pilates Method Association in 2002. She has taught pilates since then in both her native Sydney Australia and in London, UK. She combines her clinical pilates and osteopathic treatment skills to support the clients she works with. Emma works particularly with woman through all phases of life but especially during preconception, pregnancy and postpartum and with babies and children. She founded Emma Hayward Osteopathy in Whitstable, Kent in 2018 after moving to the area with her young family. Prior to this she worked in a number of osteopathic practices in London, including Nunhead Osteopathic Practice – a practice known for excellence in the fields of paediatrics and cranial osteopathy. In 2022 she opened a second Kent clinic in Margate.
Emma has presented workshops for Move Your Frame in London on pilates and pregnancy, including Optimal Foetal Position for Birth. She has also presented lectures to Doulas and Midwives on Optimal Foetal Positioning and how osteopathy and movements can support this.
