Osteopathy for Babies and Children or Paediatric Osteopathy is often referred to as cranial osteopathy by the public. Whilst ‘cranial’ techniques are used during treatment, paediatrics is its own field within osteopathy. Osteopaths that work with children have ideally completed significant postgraduate study in this field. Babies and children are much more than small adults, and an indepth understanding of embyological growth, their ever changing and evolving anatomy and likely and unusual presentations is very important.
Emma, after enjoying learning about child development and working with children during her time at The British School of Osteopathy (now UCO), went on to do two further years of study at the world reowned Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) where she completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatrics (DPO). Her time at the OCC meant she worked with a very varied paediatric population and also did rotations working in NICU, as an osteopath, in Barnet Hopsital treating premature infants. The OCC clinic see’s children from all over London and the South East, working with babies and mothers after difficult births, babies with feeding issues and children with complex developmental, behaviorial and neurological challenges as part of their multidiscplinary care team amoungst many other and varied conditions. Osteopathy never claims to treat a condition, we treat the person and support them.
In private practice, Emma works extensively alongside IBCLC’s in supporting babies and mother’s with breastfeeding and infant feeding generally. She works alongside Tongue Tie practioners and see’s babies before and after tongue tie release (Frenulotomy). Emma is also an affiliate member of the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners. She also works with babies and children of all ages and see’s a wide variety of presentations. Please get in touch to discuss further.
